A brief note
RICHARD HOOK was born in Melbourne in 1945. He was mainly educated here, at UWA and WAIT (now Curtin University). He also attended London University, and spent 1969 to 1971 teaching in England. Upon returning to Perth, Richard lectured in Visual Art at WAIT, and over the years has taught at the University of Tasmania, the Newcastle College of Art Education and has been happily ensconced at the University of Wollongong for about forty years.
He describes his view of his goals thus:
My paintings and prints draw on the coastal landscape through discovering and reflecting on its complex structures, chaotic forces and natural and imposed rhythms.
I’m attempting to present a composite view of a place through relatively simple structures and rhythms, relying on the associative force of abstraction rather than surface descriptions.
My paintings and graphic works mirror each other, often quite literally through the use of Photoshop: to extract different layers and possibilities. Images are circulated and recycled through manual and digital modes.
If anyone can send me a photo of Richard , I would appeciate it.
