A brief note 

LAURIE SMITH was born in Albany in 1957, and completed a BA in Fine Art at WAIT in 1979. He began exhibiting at the Undercroft Gallery in 1985 and was regularly commissioned to create murals and banners.

As well as exhibiting with us, Laurie also had solo shows at PICA, the Fremantle Arts Centre and Perth Galleries. 

Along with his old mates from Albany, David Edgar, Colin Madden, and Shaun Wake-Mazely, Laurie closed our gallery with a show titled "South" that also was the final curating task of my daughter, Rosemary.

David Bromfield commented that the show marked the end of two decades of enthusiastic and generous commitment to the visual arts.
