A brief note
MARIE HOBBS was born in Renmark, South Australia, on the 27th April, 1933. She studied art at the University of Adelaide, where she met her future husband, Michael Hobbs. They moved to Perth for a short time before moving to Oxford for three years. In 1973 Marie was able to study at the Southampton School of Art, and returned to more study at the Claremont School of Art in 1974. And in 1974 she had her first solo exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery. Marie began showing with us in 1983.
Prominent art critic and historian, David Bromfield, described Marie Hobbs as "a marvellous artist, she has the integrity, maturity and mastery of technique that is missing in most of our local painters".
I agree! Marie Is a constant reminder to Perth artists of what can be done with true character, real grit and determination.
