After a number of teaching positions in England, John Beard arrived in Western Australia in 1983, becoming the Senior Lecturer, Head of Painting, at Curtin University. John became an Australian citizen, almost immediately, in 1983.  He exhibited frequently in Perth, as well as in Sydney and Melbourne. John was awarded the Wynne Prize for Landscape in 2006, and the Archibald Prize in 2007. His exhibition history is too voluminous to record here, and his works are in major collections all around the world.
